Legally Mine (Book Two in the Spitfire Trilogy)
by Nicole French
Release Date: June 28, 2017

Blurb:
What's the point of falling in love if it only breaks your heart?

Skylar Crosby should be on top of the world. She's just graduated from the best law school in the country and is supposed to kick-start a successful career. But with her father still recovering from his gambling addiction, her absentee mother suddenly reappearing in her life, and the stresses of studying for the bar exam, Skylar is feeling more like she's holding the world up rather than standing on top of it. And then, of course, there's the matter of her utterly smashed heart.

In just a few short months, brilliant attorney and all-around tycoon Brandon Sterling quickly became the sun to Skylar's universe only to twist it upside down and inside out with his secrets, leaving her with a decision to make that will change both of their lives forever. And although Brandon can't forget the girl who gave him back his heart, sudden changes in his own complicated life will make getting her back that much more difficult. Luckily, Brandon Sterling has never been one to walk away from a challenge.

Even when the whole world seems united against them, it's possible that they are their own worst enemies. Legally Mine, the second book in the explosive Spitfire series, continues the saga of Skylar and Brandon as two stubborn, intelligent, damaged people trying to learn how to let themselves love and be loved return.

Excerpt:
We stared at each other, bristling and irritated. Finally, eager to break the stare-off, I pushed off the wall with my feet to float on my back. I stretched toward the opposite end of the pool, arching in a way that made my breasts peak toward the ceiling, then flipped backward until I popped up again through the water. When I surfaced, Brandon was watching intently, a different kind of fire in his ice-blue eyes. Did he wanted to strangle me or eat me alive? It was hard to tell the difference.
"I know what you're doing," he said finally, low and almost menacing.
I continued to tread water, then flipped over again, slowing my movements even more. "Do you?"
"Get out of there, will you?" Brandon reached a hand out, beckoning me to swim back.
I just stared at it. "No," I said. "I'm not done with my workout."
I rolled backward through the water once more, then resurfaced to find Brandon standing up. His face looked like murder, but the tenting in his pants spoke of something else.
"Get out of the pool, Red," Brandon said, barely concealing his frustration.
"Stop telling me what to do."
"I'm not joking. Get out."
"No."
"Get out of the fuckin' pool, Skylar!" Brandon shouted, his South Boston accent out in full force. He thrust both hands into his hair and yanked. "Fuck!"
I just kept treading while sounds of the water lapping on the sides of the pool filled the space between us. Brandon stared at me, then dropped his hands.
"Fine," he said as he started to remove his vest. "Have it your way." He unbuttoned his shirt and tossed them both on the lounge chair next to him.
"What are you doing?" I asked as he started pulling off his shoes and socks, which then joined the clothes.
"What do you think?" Brandon snapped as he unbuckled his belt. "You won't come out, so I'm coming in."
"In your underwear?"
He pulled off his pants and threw them on top of his other things. He now stood in front of me in nothing but his boxer briefs, his perfectly sculpted body, including his sizable erection, on display for anyone to see. The reflected light glimmered over the broad lines of his shoulders and pectorals, the v-shaped muscles of his abdomen, the lean, long shapes of his thighs. Now he was the one who looked like a Greek statue.
I bit my lip, willing the heat building in my core to calm down.
"Well, it's either that or nothing at all," Brandon said just before he jumped in with a splash.
Tall as he was, he didn't need to tread water, but he still dipped underwater and surfaced like some kind of mythical sea god. The water glistened on his muscles as he tracked me like a shark.
My legs somehow kept circling, but the rest of me stilled. I wasn't in the mood to be pounced on, as Brandon sometimes did. He often used sex as a Band-Aid, and right now, I wasn't okay with that, even if the water droplets sliding over his pecs were getting me pretty hot and bothered.
My instincts took over: fight or flight. I dove underneath the blue lane barrier and swam to the corner of the pool. Before I could climb up the ladder, though, I found myself caged by two tanned, rock-hard arms.
"I don't think so."
Brandon's voice vibrated in my ear, and I froze. I turned slowly, and he released his grip on the ladder, backing off just enough so that I could turn around. His gaze bored into me like a drill. But it wasn't just the intensity in his eyes that pinned me to the ledge; it was the hurt there as well.
"You can't keep doing this," Brandon said in a low, taut voice.
Around me, his body was pulled tight as a drum. The evening had taken a toll on him too.
"You can't keep running away every time I do something you don't like."
"I don't––"
"You do," he cut me off gently.
We were close enough that he didn't need to raise his voice. Around me, his muscles flexed even more.
"Every time. My office. The airport. After you found out about Miranda, about Messina's payoff. That night at the club. And now tonight. If I railroad, Red, you run."
I heard my grandmother's words to me in Brooklyn after I had escaped there in April. She had compared me to my mother, who couldn't even stand beside me for the length of a party. And now I was becoming just like her.
"My life is complicated," Brandon continued. "I know that. I know it's not easy for you. But I am yours, Skylar, body and soul. But I can't be yours if you're not mine too."

Maybe This Time by Claire Yezbak Fadden Blitz

Maybe This Time
By Claire Yezbak Fadden
Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction

About the Book
Architect Kate Jameson has sworn off men. That is until she meets Eric, the handsome son of her current client. Fresh out of a messy relationship with a co-worker, Kate’s not ready to trust her judgement where men are concerned. She dodges Eric’s advances, but can’t deny the attraction growing between them. Everything–especially his soul-searing brown eyes–makes her want to throw caution to the wind and try again. At her sister’s prodding, Kate finally agrees to date Eric, surprised at the joy he brings into her life. But when their budding romance is threatened, Kate is forced to make hard decisions and fight for her true happiness.
Undercover CIA agent Eric Wiley has survived enough loss in his life to ever want to risk being hurt again. He has long since given up on true love. Still, he’s drawn to Kate in a way he can’t rationalize. Avoiding her isn’t working and for the first time in a relationship, he wants to be truthful about his past and his career. Before their romance can bloom, however, Kate goes missing. Recognizing the danger, Eric stops at nothing to rescue the woman who has captured his heart.

EXCERPT

Kate walked faster, but Colleen stopped. “There’s a guy back there waving at you. Kinda nice looking. Now he’s coming our way.” Colleen smiled as though inviting him to come closer.
“Don’t encourage him,” Kate said.
“Too late. Here he is.” Colleen made a sweeping motion as though she were a hostess on a game show introducing today’s prizes.
Oh God, his eyes are browner than I remember.
“Kate, I’m glad I caught you,” Eric said. “Sorry I missed you on the phone. I got back into town early.”
“I see that,” Kate muttered, her icy tone coating each word. Not going through this drama again. Crazy guy. Multiple girlfriends. Bad endings.
“I’m Eric Wiley,” he said, offering his hand for Colleen to shake before returning his attention to Kate.
“So maybe we can set up that coffee date. There’s a great little place a couple of doors down.”
“I know. Colleen and I just had coffee there.”
“And scones,” Colleen chimed in, handing Kate her bag of leftovers. “I’ve got to get going. I have class in thirty minutes.”
“Teacher or student?” Eric asked.
“Yoga instructor.”
“Nice. Maybe I can take your class sometime. It’s not that sweaty yoga, is it?”
“No, it’s more of a flow class. Kate can tell you all about it.” Colleen tapped Kate on the shoulder. “I’ll see you later,” she said before scurrying toward the yoga studio.
“I like your friend,” Eric said gesturing to Colleen’s back.
“She’s pretty terrific. We met in her class. Used to be a cop.” Kate wanted to run away, but her feet grounded into the earth as though an alien force rooted them in place. All the small talk didn’t comfort her. Minutes before this guy was kissing another woman, and now he was flirting with her. Was there no end to his nerve?
“Now that’s really switching career paths,” Eric said. “I consider doing that sometimes.”
“And leave the family business for what? I don’t see that happening.” You’re such a privileged mama’s boy, Kate wanted to say, but didn’t. Truth was during their earlier interactions, Eric didn’t strike her as someone who life had been easy on. It was obvious his parents leaned on his judgment. Eric presented himself as a self-made man, working for what success came his way. Still, he was hiding something she couldn’t quite put her finger on.
Granted with business-owner parents, his path may have been smoother than many. Even if your folks set you up, you’re the one who has to walk that path. Kate knew lots of privileged folks who took the benefits they were born into and managed to drink, gamble or in some other way squander their advantage, as though opportunity was an all-you-can-eat buffet. Made a bad choice, no problem. Just get a clean plate and try again. The sports pages and movie magazines were filled with celebrity examples. A couple of Kate’s sorority sisters were still trying to find themselves. That’s what they claimed at the last reunion.
“You’d be surprised. I can tell you more about my future plans over a hot mocha.”
Kate readjusted her purse strap and leaned away. “Thanks for the invite, but I need to get to work. We’re already brainstorming the next complex. Proposal is due in two weeks.”
“Yeah, I know. We talked about your innovative ideas. I thought they were great. You’re great.” Eric licked his lips and stepped closer. “Seems to me like we connected, at least a little bit, but if you’re not interested, just say so. You don’t have to go through not answering my calls and giving me the brush off. Just be honest. It will save us both a lot of time.”
Kate shoved her paper pastry bag in her coat pocket and crossed her arms. “Honesty? Is that the most important value to you, because I believe in always telling the truth. I always tell the truth.”
“And you’re suggesting I don't?” Eric’s nostrils flared with anger, causing Kate to step back. “We are standing in the street arguing about I don’t know what. Do you want to have a cup of coffee with me or not? It’s just that simple.”
“Not until you answer a question first.” Kate straightened to her full five-foot-six height. “Who were you kissing a moment ago?”
“Kissing? What are you talking about?”
“Near the cab. The woman who kissed you. Who is she? You’re an only child, so I know that wasn’t your sister. A cousin, maybe?” Kate huffed.
Eric’s eyes widened.
Is this how he stalls for time, cooking up a lie, Kate thought. This should be really good. She waited, even tapped the toe of her boot a time or two. “Well?”
“Like I said on my call, business ended early. I grabbed a cab with a coworker. End of story.”
“Not quite. Here comes your coworker, and she looks ticked.”

Testimony by Maggie Ryan
“Miss Fields, you’ve been found guilty. Sentencing is over and it’s time to pay the piper.”

“Objection!” Mia squealed again when he stood, sat on the wide rim of the tub and flipped her over his knees.

“Overruled,” Damian said, slapping her left buttock.

“Ow! That hurts!” Mia cried, her hand flying back to rub her abused cheek, a bit shocked at exactly how much a simple swat could sting.

“It’s supposed to hurt,” Damian said calmly, easily avoiding her hand to add a second swat to her right cheek. “Consider it as a form of rehabilitation.”

“Wait! This is cruel and unusual punishment!”

“No, babe, cruel would have been if you’d died in that explosion. And I would have been the one punished for the rest of my life if I’d lost you.”

Mia turned her head to him, the look in his eyes causing her heart to hitch. He was right. This all could have been avoided if she’d only obeyed him. Sliding her hand from her bottom, she nodded, accepting his right to carry out the sentence. Her acquiesce didn’t make the spanking easier to take. His hand was huge and hard, but for some reason she couldn’t explain, it just felt right.

The Mercenary's Girl by Emily Tilton
Tess hoped for one wild moment that Jack would do something. Ever since he had said the strange thing about having to make it hurt, as, trembling, she felt her panties taken down for a public whipping, Tess hadn't been able to escape the feeling that he understood her terrible dilemma more deeply than she did herself. Now, desperately, she looked at him, filled with the certainty that he must stop this awful thing that seemed to make a mockery of Tess' confusion and conflict, her struggle against the dark force of her relationship with Jeffrey.

Three weeks ago, when Tess had heard Jack say that he had to whip her hard, her newly-exposed pussy had clenched, and she had felt the wetness flow so urgently that her face blazed like the sun, but she had had not the faintest idea why. When he had told her to take hold of the opposite edge of the table, and begun to bring his belt down, it had felt so different from when Jeffrey had spanked her or whipped her. Something in his voice, something in the hand he laid on the small of her back, controlling her, seemed to say that while Jeffrey punished her only to take out his aggression and for an erotic thrill, Jack had something different in mind.

I have to make it hurt. That was what he had said. He had seemed to mean that he knew the necessity of complying with Jeffrey's command that Tess be thoroughly punished for speaking out of turn. But she had never been able to rid herself of the feeling that Jack had really meant something else. She couldn't push that feeling away even now, when he had gone to get the toy-box that held the vibrating dildo with which Jeffrey brought the girls to orgasm after disciplining them but whose other contents Tess had never known. She kept thinking, despite everything, He loves me.

"Tess, darling," Jeffrey said in the cultured voice that always conveyed more menace than she thought the roughest lower-class accent from the London docks might have done, "take off your dress."

Slave for a Day: An Idan a Svali Novella by Jane Henry
“My lord, the men of the inner sanctum are not…nice men,” he says.
I clench my jaw and nod. I have already surmised as much. “Yes, of course,” I say.
“If they detect that you are treating her with kindness, they will suspect you--”
“I understand,” I interrupt. Svali’s eyes widen. I pull the chain that binds her to me and bring her ear to my mouth. “I may take you beyond where you are comfortable, lovely,” I whisper. “But I promise you two things. First, that I will do whatever I can be ensure you like it. And second, that you can always trust me.”

The Rangers Shotgun Bride by Maddie Taylor
His boot heels rang out across the wood floor as he approached. She watched as he pulled off his hat, and dropped it on one of the benches, his actions contradicting his comment that he had to go.  Before she could ask if something was wrong, he slid her book from her fingers, set it aside, and with both hands clasping hers, tugged her to her feet.

They stood close. He was so tall—an attribute she liked about him, a lot—she had to angle her head back to look up at him.  Just as she did, he bent toward her, his large palms warmly bracketing her face, and much to her surprise and great delight, he kissed her.

Soft, at first, when she moved a step closer, welcoming his advance, one arm slid around her waist, hauling her up against him as he deepened the kiss.  As he pressed her close, their bodies melded together, supple and curved to hard and well-muscled, just like in all her daydreams.  Breathless immediately, she became more so when his tongue slipped inside her mouth.  It searched out every nook and cranny, the intimacy robbing her of rational thought and making her legs limp as noodles. Her fingers dug into his shoulders, clinging to him to keep from slithering as though boneless to the floor when he lifted his lips moments later.

“Amelia, darlin’.” His husky voice rumbling low in the chest pressed hard to her breasts made them tingle more than they already were. “We’ve grown close these past few months. I want you to remember how you feel at this exact moment.”

“How could I forget?” she asked dreamily, seeing that it was the best moment of her life.

“I’m gonna hold you to that.”

Her Protector by Annabel Joseph
He was dancing on her last nerve, and she wasn’t in the mood for a cha-cha, not after all that had happened. “Don’t come at me with your authoritative, angsty government-agent posturing.” She looked around their claustrophobic cabin. “I’m not in the mindset to put up with it.”

Far from being deflated by her scathing warning, he leaned in on bulging arms and pinned her with his gaze. “Sorry to be so authoritative, Cracky, but I’m in charge of your safety.”

“Did you just call me Cracky?”

“Until we get the all-clear from the DOD, you’re under my protection.”

“I didn’t ask for your fucking protection!”

His blue eyes darkened as he frowned. “I asked you not to use coarse language, Miss Park. Here are the rules of our sojourn together, which you will follow whether you like it or not.”

As she spluttered in irritation, he leaned an elbow on the table and ticked off each order on his fingers. “Number one, we respect each other. That’s non-negotiable. Number two, no leaving this cabin, not for any reason. Number three, no contact with the outside world. You can’t leave any physical or digital footprint that might be traced.”

“But my friends, my parents, when they can’t reach me—”

“We’ve left an outgoing message on your voicemail and email, letting everyone know that you’ve taken an impromptu cruise to the Bahamas. Wyckoff’s watching your apartment and picking up your mail. If anyone gets suspicious, the security division will take care of it. They know how to make it look like people aren’t missing.”

“This is bullshit. All of this is utter, freaking craziness.”

He sighed. “Language. This is your third warning.”

“My third warning?” She snorted. “I know you’re old, but you’re not my dad. You can’t tell me what to do.”

“I can, to an extent. I’m your commanding officer right now, and I make the rules.”

“What if I don’t follow your rules?” Rowan sassed, not quite recklessly enough to add an expletive. “What happens then? A court martial?”

She could see, visually see, some last tendon of patience snap behind his patrician regard. “If you keep pushing me, you’re going to end up over my lap, getting taught some manners for both our sakes. And it won’t be one of those fun spankings you perv on your phone in the break room. It’ll be the kind that makes you wish for a court martial instead…”
